Bio: Adriana had it all. For a long time she had nothing, yet out of those ashes had risen the best thing in her life; out of all that, she had found Brittany. She had been as content as was possible with her life before, in the Gates with her sister, doing what she had to do, surviving, getting by, determined that they would both just make it to twenty-one, both get out together; blissfully ignorant of any other way. Brittany had come into her life so expectedly, bringing with her a ray of sunshine that she never knew she was craving, showing her a paradise she hadn’t realized was lost, until together they opened Pandora’s box, becoming fast friends and falling in love; although like most things in Acirema, that love just couldn’t last.
Brittany, a middle class citizen, had bought Adriana on her twentieth birthday, taking her away from her life of slavery, showing her better, promising her things would change for them, and Adriana had believed her, given every little piece of herself over to her new life, and although her heart was forever heavy for her sister, she could barely believe she had been so lucky. That luck was short lived, Brittany’s father discovering their relationship and attacking Adriana, outraged that his daughter should love anyone, especially a slave. Narrowly escaping death, battered and emotionally ruined, Adriana was thrown back into the Gates, Brittany’s last words to her ringing in her ears, haunting her – ‘You ruined my life, go back to Santana, back where you belong, don’t come looking for me… This was a mistake, to think I loved you… It was a mistake’.
Now back in the gates Adriana is crippled by this rejection, by losing the first person she ever loved, unable to see anything good left in her now dark world. Nonetheless, she is eternally grateful to still have a family, Santana and Quinn, to return to. She can’t see any light, any hope, a life without Brittany not seeming like any life at all, the thought that the blonde never really loved her too much to take. She’s determined to try and be strong for Santana, to try and at least get by until she finds a way to be whole again, to find a way to live with the pain, cope outwardly and accept the inner turmoil that is now her life. Adriana used to be content to be the quiet twin, the youngest and more docile of the pair, happy go lucky, hard working, invisible – exactly how she liked it; after the heartache of the past few months, everything she knew is suddenly uncertain, and as for who she is now, as broken as she has become – that is yet to be re-determined.
